Campus Security

Keeping you safe on campus is a responsibility we take very seriously. All students have the right to be able to come to Northumbria and study without the fear of harassment or unacceptable behaviour. 
 
Northumbria University has a dedicated security team who work around the clock 24/7 365 days a year to ensure that the campus is safe and secure.

Some of their duties are: 

  • Protecting Staff, Students and Visitors​ 

  • Protecting Research Facilities, Teaching Facilities and Accommodation 

  • Supporting pastoral care for students and staff 

  • Engaging with the wider community 

  • Promoting Crime awareness and preventing crime 

How do they achieve these aims: 

  • Responding to all alerts on the Safezone app which is for all students to use. 

  • Providing a 24 hour, 365 days a year staffed control room. 

  • The monitoring of and response to Fire alarms, building alarms, Intruder Alarms, Lift Alarms IT Server Room Alarms. 

  • A one stop out of hours call point for dealing with all emergencies. 

  • Provision of Uniformed and Plain Clothes Security Officers 

Students can get Panic Alarms, Bike Locks and Anti spiking  
 
Safe Zone App
 
At Northumbria University all students can download the Safezone app – free to download on the App Store and Google Play here.  
 
Raise an emergency alert with a single tap if you or another person is in a situation where their personal safety is threatened. 
 
Request first aid if you or another person needs medical assistance.

Connect with your local response team or campus security for general help 

Use the Mental Health & Wellbeing button on your SafeZone app to get connected with the appropriate resources available at your organization
