The Mental Health Language course is designed to challenge mental health stigma in society by highlighting how it is used in everyday language and the origins of the words and sayings which have changed meanings over the years.
As society moves forward in its understanding and acceptance of various mental health conditions it is important that our language also moves forward to end stigma about mental health which is still prevalent today. As such this course was designed to instruct participants to understand what we say and how we say it and how it affects those with the condition. The course explores the origins of sayings and words to understand the root of the stigma and provides the positive alternatives and the correct way to talk about mental health from an informed and inclusive perspective.
