NHS Make Every Contact Count (MECC) Training

Time Commitment: 120 Minutes - In Person or Online

Earns: 60 points toward Employability Award Level 2

MECC is an approach to behaviour change that utilises the millions of day-to-day interactions that organisations and people have with other people to encourage changes in behaviour that have a positive effect on the health and wellbeing of individuals, communities and populations. This training is ideal for all students entering into NHS professions as well as NHS facing professions however all students who are interested are able to take the training. 

It is simple signposting to better health and wellbeing. Helping you to have brief conversations in order to raise awareness, motivate and signpost people to better health and wellbeing using three steps: 

Ask – take notice and engage 

Assist – provide motivational health information 

Act – signpost to a local service 
 
The Wellbeing team have been trained by the NHS to provide this training to all students which is 1.5 hours and comes with a certificate from the NHS Integrated Care Team to state that they have completed their training.  

This training is ideal for all students entering into NHS professions as well as NHS facing professions however all students who are interested are able to take the training.  
 
MECC for Mental Health
 
MECC for Mental Health is as above however takes a significantly longer amount of time as the depth of knowledge required is more extensive and the participants will need to use a workbook and so would require an afternoon at least. With MECC for Mental Health the participants will receive a certificate from NHS and can receive a certificate from the Royal Society of Public Health.
