We all have mental health, it’s made up of is how think, feel and behave and just as our physical health can fluctuate, so too can our mental health. At times we can have good mental health, at other times our mental health can be poor, or we can experience mental ill health either with or without a diagnosis of a mental health condition. You do not need a diagnosis of mental health condition to get advice and support regarding your mental health. Just as you may exercise to build up your physical strength, by implementing wellbeing strategies into your day-to-day life you can help create positive mental health and imbed protective factors to support your own wellbeing.
5 Ways to Wellbeing
STEP 1: CONNECT
Creating good social connections aids mental
Wellbeing. For some, that will be being part of a large group, for others it will be three or four good friends. Here are some ways you can connect at
NSU: Events and activities, societies, volunteering.
STEP 2: BE ACTIVE
Being active is not only great for your physical
health and fitness, but it can also improve mental
health too. Try joining a sport society or club, look into your community for any events you might like or groups you would be interested in joining.
STEP 3: KEEP LEARNING
Learning new skills is scientifically proven to
be good for your brain! Take part in our training
opportunities or representation campaigns.
STEP 4: GIVE TO OTHERS
Volunteering can create positive feelings, a sense
of reward, purpose, self-worth, and helping you
connect with other people. At NSU we have lots of
opportunities for you to get involved.
STEP 5: BE MINDFUL
Mindfulness can help you enjoy life more and
understand yourself better. It can positively change
the way you feel about life and how you approach
challenges. Come along to Wellbeing Wednesdays
